<![CDATA[One week to go! - 25-1-2016]]>Mon, 25 Jan 2016 21:19:46 GMThttp://sistermollygaffney.weebly.com/blog/one-week-to-go-25-1-2016One week to go!

I felt like we had a really good week this week. We saw some really simple, but wonderful miracles that just reminded me so much of how this is our Heavenly Father's work.
One of these miracles was that we were able to see an investigator that we haven't seen in a while. He's very old and he lives way out so its hard to get to his area without a member taking us up there. But we were able to go and see him this week with a recent convert from our ward. It was a miracle that we were able to see him but the lesson, and the words that our recent convert shared with our investigator, was also a miracle. He has trouble accepting that we have a living prophet on the earth today, and our recent convert was able to share with him how she felt the same and that how she was able to receive a testimony for herself about living Prophets.

Another miracle that we experienced was that we were able to get into contact with a very promising former investigator that we have been trying to contact for weeks. And we were also able to contact a less active couple that we have been trying to meet for weeks also. We went out with a ysa sister in the ward who is putting in her mission papers. It was great to see her recognising the miracles of missionary work and her enthusiasm for what we are doings so so contagious.

This week we attended the funeral of an elderly lady from the ward and in attendance at the funeral there were many less actives. One man and his daughter were particularly keen to talk to us and they expressed a desire for us to stop by and see them when we are in their area. Of course we are now planning to be in that area this week so that we can go and see them.

We were also able to start teaching the husband of another of our investigators and we got to meet their daughter and granddaughter during our lesson with them this week. We have been able to meet a few of their family members, and although right now they are not interested in taking their curiosity any further, I feel very good about the seeds that we have planted with them.

I really enjoyed the Broadcast from the missionary department this week. I learnt so much from it and I have loved reviewing my notes.

Everyone keeps telling me that I am leaving, but somehow I am finding it hard to believe them!

Oooh, I also was lucky enough to get to see the Hawkins' this week!!

I love you all!!!!!!

So my email this week is super lame because I have been doing BYU stuff and the APs want me to do stuff for trunky night so I was sorting that out too!
Basically, I have still been ill this week so we have been in the flat a lot. We have had fun though because wherever Sister Gaffney is, it's always fun!
We had interviews with President this week. It was great, and we had a lovely introduction to my departing interview. Yep, that was basically all we talked about. But it was great. And Sister Leppard is the sweetest thing ever.

I know that the Church is true! Missions are the best thing ever. I am looking forward to seeing you all again, but I'll be honest, I am not looking forward to leaving the mission. There is nothing that I love more than serving my Heavenly Father!

Love you all!!!

<![CDATA[Earth's Best Mission (EBM) - 11-1-2016]]>Fri, 22 Jan 2016 17:23:49 GMThttp://sistermollygaffney.weebly.com/blog/earths-best-mission-ebm-11-1-2016
Zone Meeting and lunch with my Baby :)
Again, the head is hurting so I am not too sure how this email will be.
I will just talk about the highlights of this week.

We had Zone Meeting this week. That was awesome as usual. We had some really great training. One of the District Leaders, Elder Wagner, gave training about The Book of Mormon and he related it to Excalibur. I thought that was pretty cool. I do love the whole Merlin/King Arthur legend. That training definitely stuck in my head! We also received the new goals for the mission/stake and ward. and then we talked about how, as missionaries, we can help these goals to be achieved. My Zone Leaders, well the one who came out at the same time, was very kind and reminded me often that I only had 4 weeks to help work on these goals. Ha.Ha.Ha.

As Zone Meeting came to a close, it was Sister Gaffney's turn to talk. I had to give my departing testimony! That was a really weird thing to do. And it didn't really hit me until I was wrapping up, that I actually will be going home soon. So I lasted until literally my last sentence before I shed any tears! But I am ok, I get to see the whole Zone again on the 20th January and I have exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders (specifically Sister Sorensen :D) on the 26th/27th. Therefore there were no goodbyes to be said! :)

District Meeting was on Thursday. That was also really good. We talked about the Gifts of the Spirit that we as missionaries need to develop in order to teach the Gospel. We ended up, as a District (but mainly Elder Jones) drawing an interesting diagram/picture on the chalkboard to demonstrate how these gifts can help us. I will send a photo of it with this email, and if anyone can understand how it is even closely related, then bravo to you. It looks completely strange.

Then we had lunch as a District before we had to leave and head to the Doctors. The diagnosis was that Sister Gaffney has Labyrinthitus. So the doctor told me that I had to get plenty of rest... Not what I wanted to hear. But Heavenly Father knows what He is doing so I have to trust that knowledge.

We had a really good visit with a recent convert this week. Oh my days, her house is so cute. She has been decorating and she just has the cutest things in her house. It felt so cosy and homey. We studied for the Sunday School lesson and then we had dinner with her. Wow, studying for the Sunday School lesson was really awesome. I have hardly spent any time in Gospel Doctrine since I have been on my mission, but it got me excited to go back to it when I get home. Especially because this year we are studying the Book of Mormon. That is another reason to love Sunday School :)

There has been a lot of rain this week! Monday we got really really really wet. That was no fun. It made me really sad and cold and I already felt terrible. Bleurgh!

Oh, we were talking last night about how we never know what to email to President, and Sister Beazer said, "Just email him and say 'Dear President, this week I have just felt bleurgh, love Sister Gaffney'." I thought that was actually a pretty good idea, but I said more than that haha. It was very acurate because that's all I say to her when she asks how I am feeling.

Well I don't really know what else to say. Except please pray for me to get into BYU! I'm doing the application right now and I'm really nervous about it!

I am so grateful to each of you for all your prayers and support. I know that each prayer is heard and that each prayer is answered.

I love you all!!

Love, Sister Gaffney

<![CDATA[Happy New Year!! - 4-1-2016]]>Sat, 09 Jan 2016 14:32:27 GMThttp://sistermollygaffney.weebly.com/blog/happy-new-year-4-1-2016Well this isn't going to be a long email this week, staring at a computer screen for a long time hurts my head.

So we haven't had the busiest week this week but we have had fun!

We went into Cardiff City Centre on Monday for P-Day. We went with some of the Elders, then when it came time for us to head in to Primark, we lost them. But we went to the Cardiff chapel and we hung out with them and some more missionaries. Don't worry, we caught the train home as opposed to walking home :)

We did however walk to another part of our area this week as the trains weren't running on New Years Day. It was quite nice to walk there, didn't take as long as we thought it would. And we saw some really cool miracles there. We were able to pick up a former investigator and he committed to a baptismal date! We were also able to contact a referral who is totally awesome and said that we can come back this week!

This week we got to go to Pontypridd, that is the ward where the other Elders in our District work. It is such a cute, Welsh town! It did rain on us an awful lot though! Bleurgh! But it was cool to go up there. Then we went and stopped by some people in our area and when we got home we were both really really wet. So much water in Wales!

Our District Leader was rather unwell this weekend so on Saturday, we took them over a little bag with some medicine and then some ice cream and waffles. Then on Sunday we gave them brownies to cheer them up. We spoil those Elders! They're so lucky! Haha

Well Happy New Year to you all!
2016 is the chance for a new start. It is the chance for us to set some new goals that we can work towards. And sadly for me, it means that my mission is coming to an end. But that's ok. I have learnt so much here in the last 17 months. I have grown as a person and I have so many goals for the next part of my life that I know I can achieve because they are what my Heavenly Father sees me becoming.
The mission is the best thing ever! I love it so much!!

I love you all!!!

Funny Placemats
Hey, it's me again!

First of all I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! It is such a special time of the year when we can remember our Saviour and all that He did for us. I am so grateful for a time when there is such a huge focus on Jesus Christ. Because without Christ, there would be no Christmas. There would be no way to be with our families for all eternity. There would be no forgiveness, no hope of a second chance, no knowledge that all would be made right again. Christmas is just another reminder to me of our Heavenly Father's love for each and every one of His children. Christ came for each one of us, for every man, woman and child who is, was and will be on the earth.

This week has been such a strange week for me as a missionary! It has been so different from normal. On Saturday I sent out a brief email. I talked about our Zone Meeting/Christmas party that we had.

"Christmas Eve we had Zone Meeting, but it was basically just a big party! So much crazy! We played different games and had different activities and challenges to do as a District to earn points. It was really competitive at points. I just enjoyed watching everyone acting like idiots. We had some really great activities. And we even ended with each having to do a dance as a district. That was my least favourite part! hahaha"

Then after we had our 'party' we caught the train out to our Ward Mission Leaders house where we spent the remainder of our Christmas Eve. It was a lot of fun. We played articulate and at first it was super hard, then I got better at it. I did really good on everything except the films, music and actors. Because the mission veil is real and I remember nothing! But it's ok, I still won ;) We ate a lot of snacks and chocolate and it was great!

CHRISTMAS DAY!!! Well, the day started with the opening of Presents. We were spoilt by the ward! Then it was time to start cooking! We had a full English breakfast! It was so good if I must say so myself. We then had studies... So we studied the Nativity! :) We had a Christmas Day Service at the Church and then we headed to the Holcombes for the day! Obviously, we had Skype time! That was wicked. It was so good to see everyone! I loved it! It is always weird to skype, but it is always awesome. Then we just had a lot of fun with the Holcombe family. There was Star Wars lightsaber battles going on, we had some fun funny face placemats and some Christmas Bells fun. And you can't go without having the cup song done around the table! It was so much fun! And we had so much food! The food coma is real!

The after we were done at the Holcombes, we went down to the Maizey's house for the second round of Skyping with Sister Beazer's family. Then we had more fun and games before it was time to head home for bed. And boy were we ready for bed! I couldn't wait to sleep that night!

Boxing Day was just as tiring! And we had even more food that day. I have never eaten so much food in my whole life! It was insane! But we went into town to meet up with some of the missionaries and just chill. Actually the Elders were all buying suits so we ended up waiting for them. And then we headed home... On foot... Because the buses weren't running anymore. So we walked the 7.5 Kilometres back to the flat.
The next day we just felt awful. So that was a really fun Sabbath. But by the end of the day we felt a lot better. But we were still super tired. Like soooo tired!

This week has really been awesome. I am so glad that I was lucky enough to be a missionary at this wonderful Christmas season. It is an amazing time to be serving the Lord and to be sharing my testimony of my Saviour.

I love being a missionary! It is the best job ever!

Love you all <3

So... we're going to brave the storm later and go into Cardiff. We weren't going to go in, but the Elders guilt tripped us in to going and hanging out with them. So I'm sure we'll have lots of fun stories about that one.

We had a super fun past couple of days. Christmas Eve we had Zone Meeting, but it was basically just a big party! So much crazy! We played different games and had different activities and challenges to do as a District to earn points. It was really competitive at points. I just enjoyed watching everyone acting like idiots. Have a wonderful day and I'll speak to you all on Monday :)

Sister Gaffney and Sister Vousden

Wow this week I have just been so tired! We have done soooo much! Travelling, singing, Christmas stuff etc. I'll try and make it sound as exciting and fun as it was! But I don't if I can get across to you all just how awesome it was. :)

I think I should just start off by saying that... SISTER GAFFNEY DIDN'T CHANGE COMPANION!! Yep, Me and Sister Beazer got to stay together. Sister Beazer will be my last companion on the mission!
The rest of the dodge... The Elders in the District also stayed. All of them!! YAY!!
Sister Woolsey has however left and gone back to England :( She's now in Cannock in Lichfield Zone. But guess who is now in Cardiff... Only my baby girl Sister Rasmussen! So I have seen her twice this week! :D
And Sister Sorensen (Woodsetton) is now my new Sister Training Leader!

So last Monday we had our District P-Day. We went into City Centre, emailed with the Cardiff Central missionaries and then went out to have some fun. But we took ages trying to decide what to do, so we ended up going to this mini fair thing and went on a Rollercoaster Simulator thing. It was so funny! And I think watching the Elders was the funniest part of it! Funniest 4 minutes ever!

Then that night we got the biggest shock when we got the dodge call. I have never heard of an entire District staying the same. I think every single other companionship in the Zone changed except for the ones in our District! Awesome!

Wednesday was spent doing service all day! It was great. I was feeling pretty down at the start of the day but it's true, when you do something for someone else it really does make you feel better! I love doing service for other people. It is the best. And we spent the whole day laughing and throwing things at the Elders :P fun fun fun!

Friday!! This day was just plain awesome! We had our Christmas Multi Zone Conference in Cheltenham. I got to see so many of my friends! Sister Rasmussen, Sister Frandsen, Sister Sorensen, Sister Vousden, Elder Jarvis, Elder Swalberg, Elder Palu, Elder Ruttan, Elder Page etc etc etc! It was great! We got to have the Christmas story read to us by President and Sister Leppard, the Merthyr Zone performed the nativity, we did a musical number, and the Cardiff zone did a Christmas Skit in which Sister Beazer played Santa! Hahaha, it was awesome!

I love Christmas! I am so excited to share it with my family on Skype! I can't wait to talk to you all!!

Christ is the reason for this wonderful season! Be sure to always remember this!

Love you!!!

<![CDATA[Wow, what a week! - 14-12-2015]]>Mon, 21 Dec 2015 22:26:16 GMThttp://sistermollygaffney.weebly.com/blog/wow-what-a-week-14-12-2015
The wonderful Sister Beazer and I
Hello one and all!

I am sat in the Cardiff Chapel right now with the rest of my District emailing:) it is always a more interesting email session when you're with the elders... Strange bunch. Haha

Well transfers are coming up this week and who knows what is going to happen. Everyone keeps telling us that Sister Beazer will leave, but I am not so sure. There is no point in her leaving. And we have been asked to sing together at Zone Conference on Friday so she totally can't leave. Yay! But watch this space, I'm sure Momma will let you know what happens.

This week was a totally busy week... It was really good. But it went really fast!

So this week we got to go on exchanges. Which meant that Sister Gaffney got to go back to Merthyr with Sister Crowley! It was so weird going back to Merthyr. Weird but so cool. It was a really good exchange as well. We got to help out with a puppet show for the primary kids. Which meant that I got to be like 5 different Disney princesses in one day... Dream come true! It's proof, Sister Gaffney is a Princess!

We also got to go into city centre to do Christmas caroling with some other teams of missionaries. We sang, some of the other missionaries talked to people and then we ate doughnuts together. It was cold, but it was awesome!

District meeting this week was super fun. We talked about following the spirit and we did an activity where we had someone blindfolded and then we guided them around the room but they didn't know who their guide was. It is something that I have seen before but it was really funny to watch the elders do it.
And for lunch, one of the elders was going to make milkshakes for us but somehow, it ended up all over the kitchen side in a big mess... But it tasted good. :)

Zone meeting was this week, it was really good! We received some really great training. And we had a really fun lunch. We are doing a skit as a zone at the Christmas zone conference and so they were practicing. It was so funny to watch! I wish I had videoed it. It made me laugh so much. I'm really excited for zone conference!

Well, Christmas is coming! It's literally around the corner! I will let you all know about Skype times when I know what is going on!

The church is true. Christmas is all about one thing, Jesus Christ!
Remember the true meaning of Christmas!

I love you all

Pday in Cardiff last week

<![CDATA[Christmas is Coming! - 7-12-2015]]>Mon, 07 Dec 2015 22:00:53 GMThttp://sistermollygaffney.weebly.com/blog/christmas-is-coming-7-12-2015
Hey Everyone,

So I'll be honest, I was not in the emailing mood today. I have no idea what to say to everyone. I am doing really good though. We had a good week, had lots of fun, worked hard and shared the Gospel!

I would like to share with you an interesting experience that we had this week, actually it was Sunday afternoon. We were in our flat after lunch finishing up some weekly planning, and getting ready to leave, when the atmosphere of the flat just got really heavy and sad. That feeling stayed with us as we left the flat and headed to our potentials home. It was a really solid plan that we had but we didn't feel right and we stopped to pray about what to do. We felt that we should go in the opposite direction and when we did, we felt so much lighter. We followed where the spirit wanted us to go and every now and then we felt like a brick wall had been put in front of us or we felt ill if we tried to go further. So we stopped to pray for guidance, and after a while we felt like we should keep going forward. Every time that we would look back, we felt extremely bad about it. As we were praying and asking Heavenly Father what we should be doing, Sister Beazer kept feeling that we were doing the right thing and I just kept feeling that this experience was for our learning. We were walking for quite a while, talking to people along the way and it was just really strange. We kept stopping, praying and then walking on. We ended up walking all the way down to our DA and getting there around the time that we should've. I am still praying about what it is that I needed to learn from that experience but I know one thing, Don't Look Back! Remember Lot's Wife!

I know that the Lord works in mysterious ways. He doesn't always make it easy for us but He knows what we need to hear and how we need to hear it.
Missionary work is the greatest work that there is! I never want my mission to end! I love being a missionary. I love Cardiff and I love the Gospel!

Love you!
Sister Gaffney xx
