Hello from Dudley!
This week has been... Well in all honesty... Sucky!
Satan has hit at us from all angles this week. We've had discouragement, meltdowns, sickness, exhaustion and that's without mentioning how he's been hitting at our investigators! The adversary is very real and very ticked off! Whenever we felt like we were getting somewhere this week, it all came back in our faces.
But anyway. This week we had some good points too! Like Zone Meeting. It was a weird zone meeting for me because A: there was no Elder Lowe. B: we were in the chapel and not the cultural hall and C: everyone was on iPads. Weird!
But it was a really good Meeting and I learnt a lot from it. I realised that I needed to get better with my finding. I am good at talking to people when we go out finding, but I noticed that I tended to wait until I got to town centre, or wherever it is that we were going, before I would talk to people. So this week after Zone Meeting, I made the goal to talk to everyone and always be GQing people between appointments and on the way to places. It has been really good, and although our numbers weren't great this week, I felt good because I could say that I tried my best to talk to everyone as we were out finding.
Another exciting thing this week. Let me tell you the short story. We were sat down at our desks after we had just closed our planning session with prayer when the phone starts to ring. I look at it and the Cardiff Zone Leaders were calling us. Hmmm... We have Caerphilly's old phone so sometimes we get phone calls that are meant for them do I just assumed it was probably that. So I answer it and say "Hello, this is the Sisters." Then a very familiar voice says "Hi Sister Gaffney!" It was only good old Elder Myrtaj! He had a referral for us:) it was good to hear his voice again. He's a funny one. We had a good chat on the phone too before he had to get back to his ZL duties.
I am just going to tell you that laughter really is the best medicine. We really have had a rubbish week, but me and Sister Woolsey have not stopped giggling and acting like little, strange children all week. I don't think i have ever laughed as much as I did this week! We are an odd pair and we definitely keep our District Leader on his toes! I wouldn't have it any other way. And Sister Frandsen is great at making sure that we don't get too distracted so that we can get missionary work done too hahaha.
And I think the best way to finish this email is talking about Conference on Yesterday. Wasn't it so good? I absolutely loved it. I learnt so much from it all. I loved the talk from the English guy, Allan D. Freed. I got some fantastic notes from his talk. I loved how he used the battle of Dunkirk to talk about the work of members and missionaries around the world. (some of my notes from his talk) -- We will never surrender! Let us join the battle that rages for the hearts of the children of men and reach out to the rescue. The work of bring others unto Christ is the greatest and noblest work that we could be a part of. --
And obviously Elder Holland's talk was amazing. I just love his powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon. He is such an amazing speaker and every time that he talks, I always feel the spirit so strong that usually I am crying at least once during his talk. Don't worry, it happened yesterday! I don't want to know how much I am going to cry when I see him talk in person on Thursday. I a, so excited for Mission Conference this week. I'll try and take a lot of notes, but to be honest, about halfway through his talk yesterday I just stopped taking notes. I just listened. -- The trial of our faith is not to test our faith. But to trigger future experiences. ---- The Book of Mormon is the divine symbol that the work of the Lord has begun for the last time in preparation for the second coming of the Saviour. --
Well this week is going to be epic, I just know it. I know that this Church is the true church upon the earth today. I know that we have a Father in Heaven who loves us and listens to every word that we pray. Jesus Christ suffered for each and one of us so that we don't have to carry our burdens alone. We are not, and never will be, alone!
I love you all and I will have some wonderful things to share with you next week I am sure!
Elder Holland is coming here on Thursday!! So excited!!!!!!!! ... Can you tell?!
Love Sister Gaffney :) 🇬🇧
